Advice from Canpol's experienced mothers.
Material
Material There are two types of bottles available both in our offer and on the market: glass and plastic.
- Glass bottles are made of tempered glass which guarantees that the bottle won't break when you pour boiling water into it, but when dropped - it will break. Glass bottles are easy to keep clean, they don't change their colour under the influence of juice or tea. They are very durable, they don't get scratched or cloudy. Their disadvantages are weight and longer milk heating time (glass is thick and conducts heat poorly).
- Plastic bottles are made of durable polycarbonate or polypropylene not containing bisphenol-A. There are also bottles made of tritan and polyamide, which also don't contain bisphenol-A. Polycarbonate bottles are as transparent as glass, whereas polypropylene bottles are mat. The advantage of plastic bottles is their lightness and comfort of use. Their disadvantage is that they can change colour under the influence of pigments from juice or soups, especially those containing carrot.
Bottle shape
There are various bottle shapes on the market, and they all have different functions:
- traditional bottles, with narrow necks, can be made of plastic or glass. They are comfortable to hold and universal. You can use them to feed your baby milk, juice, baby cereal or soup.
- Wide neck bottles are made of plastic. Wide opening makes the bottle easy to fill and clean. Wide neck bottles are usually equipped with an anti-colic teat, therefore they can be used to prevent colic, similar to the Balloon bottle. Because of their profling, they can be held in a way that allows the bottle to move freely in accordance with the baby's sucking rhytm. Remember, that when you put the sealing disc on, the bottle can also function as a tight jar for freezing and transporting food.
- Bottles in odd shapes (e.g. with a hole inside) are made of plastic. They come in different shapes - from elongated to squat. The hole in the middle of the bottle teaches the baby to hold the bottle independently. They are suitable for children over one year. They are ideal for teaching the baby independent drinking.
- Anti-colic bottles are made of plastic and they have special air vents. They usually have a characteristic, angled shape. Anti-colic bottles produced by Canpol babies have a specially profiled shape and they are equipped with a base valve that can be unscrewed which enables a free flow of air into the bottle so that the baby doesn't swallow it during feeding - this reduces the risk of developing colic. They are especially recommended for children, who suffer from colic, but they can also be used preventively.
Capacity
Each bottle should have a scale for measuring feed. Check that the scale has multiples of 30 ml, as this will make preparing milk formula easier. In the beginning choose small bottles, from 80 to 120 ml. When you feed a 2-months old baby, a small bottle will be better, e.g. with capacity of 120 ml. If you feed a one year old child - give the milk formula or baby rice from a 250 ml bottle. When the child becomes more independent at his 9-10 months and wants to hold the bottle on his own, it's best to buy removable handles, suitable for your baby's little hands.
